Hi

10 August 2010
Five cannabis farms were shut down as police swooped on homes in West Yorkshire. yesterday.
Suspected drug dealers in Wakefield, Normanton, Featherstone, Rothwell and Honley were targeted during the dawn raids, in which drugs, cash and vehicles were seized.

The raids were part of the latest phase of Operation Grassland, which has seen scores of dealers arrested and brought before the courts.

Yesterday's operation netted seven arrests
six men and one woman
in connection with the production of cannabis.

Items seized included drugs, drugs paraphernalia and cash as well as three vans, one camper van, two cars and four motorbikes.

Chief Supt Marc Callaghan, Divisional Commander for Wakefield District Police, said: "In June we arrested more than 60 suspected drug dealers in the latest phase of Operation Grassland and here we are again targeting more suspected criminals who blight the lives of people living in our communities by peddling drugs.

"It is an excellent example of how we have listened to the concerns of the community and then responded with some great results.

"If you suspect someone is making a living from crime
let us know and we will act."

He said the Proceeds of Crime Act allowed police to hit criminals
where its hurt - their wallets.

"We are able to seize cash, recover cars, houses and any other assets they may have," he said.

"Clearly it is imperative that we work together to tackle criminals living in our local neighbourhoods." Insp Lisa Kirkland, of Normanton and Featherstone Neighbourhood Policing Team, added: "Neighbourhood
Policing Teams are working to ensure that community concerns about
drugs are reported and acted upon.

"I would urge people to keep in touch with us."
