Hi

10 Aug 2010

A man was yesterday found guilty of supplying cannabis after he was caught with
300,000 worth of the drug.

Police officers caught Mark Shum, 62, with the drug when they pulled over his Peugeot car on the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen road following a tip-off.

Shum had two suitcases in the car containing a combined total of almost 45kg of cannabis which the High Court in Edinburgh heard could reach a maximum street value of
300,000.

Shum, of Auchinyell Road, Aberdeen, was found guilty after of supplying cannabis between August 1 and August 14 last year at Fraser Place at several locations, including the A90 Dundee-to-Aberdeen road, near Nigg Way, Aberdeen, Edinburgh.

He Leng, 23, of Hill Street in Glasgow, had faced the same charge but his not guilty plea was accepted by the Crown.

Giving evidence, Shum, who had denied the allegation against him, said he was to be paid
100 for collecting former co-accused Mr Leng from Edinburgh and driving him to Aberdeen for a job.

He said the suitcases belonged to Mr Leng and he thought they were full of his clothes and belongings. Shum told police he knew nothing about the drugs and denied sending text messages on his phone referring to drugs, claiming he could not type in English.

The court heard Shum had lived in Aberdeen for 20 years and first came to the UK from Hong Kong in 1973 and had two sons and two grandsons.

Lord Malcolm deferred sentence until next month for back-ground reports.
